Why Barcelona for a Anniversary Escape trip
Barcelona marks an anniversary best through food and architecture. Base yourselves on Passeig de Gràcia in a suite with a terrace facing the Modernista facades, and book a tasting menu at one of the city's celebrated creative Catalan restaurants. Take a private guided visit of the Sagrada Família early, catch a performance at the Palau de la Música Catalana, and spend an evening sailing along the coast at sunset before a late dinner, Spanish-style, well after ten.
Barcelona combines the elegance of a design capital with Mediterranean beach life. Luxury here means Modernista architecture by Gaudí on the doorstep, rooftop pools above Passeig de Gràcia, avant-garde Catalan cuisine and long, late dinners. The city appeals to travelers who want culture, design and coastline in a single trip, with no need to choose between a city break and a seaside escape.
When to go: May, June, September and early October offer warm sunshine, comfortable evenings and sea temperatures suited to swimming without the heat and peak crowds of July and August. Winters are mild and quieter, though too cool for the beach.
