Kuala Lumpur, Asia's
tour-tested city golf

PGA Tour and LPGA venues within a short drive of the Petronas Towers, with Michelin-starred Malaysian cooking after the round.

Kuala Lumpur is one of the few capitals where you can play PGA Tour and LPGA venues in the morning and be back downtown for lunch. Start with the West Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, home of the PGA Tour's CIMB Classic from 2013 to 2018 and the LPGA's Maybank Championship since 2023; Saujana's Palm Course, "The Cobra," a seven-time Malaysian Open venue; and The Mines, Robert Trent Jones Jr.'s course on a former tin mine. Add Kota Permai in Shah Alam. Golf is year-round; the drier spells usually fall in January–February and June–August, and early tee times are the norm.

Which Kuala Lumpur courses should you play first?

Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club — West Course, at Bukit Kiara on the city's western edge, is the headline round. Its hilly parkland layout, originally by Nelson & Haworth and opened in 1991, hosted the PGA Tour's CIMB Classic from 2013 to 2018, when the club operated as TPC Kuala Lumpur, and has staged the LPGA Tour's Maybank Championship since 2023. KLGCC is a members' club with West and East courses; visitor tee times are available through the club and golf travel agents, subject to tournament closures.

Saujana Golf & Country Club — Palm Course, near Shah Alam, is Ronald Fream's "Cobra," coiling through an old oil palm estate. It has hosted the Malaysian Open seven times, including 1999 — the first event co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours — and 2009. The club's second 18, Bunga Raya, sits beside it next to The Saujana Hotel.

The Mines Resort & Golf Club in Seri Kembangan, south of the city, is a 1994 Robert Trent Jones Jr. lakeside layout built on the former Hong Fatt open-cast tin mine. It hosted the 1999 World Cup of Golf and the first three CIMB Classics, from 2010 to 2012, and is open daily to visitors with a tee-time booking.

Kota Permai Golf & Country Club in Shah Alam is a strategic Ross Watson design known for fast greens; it hosted the Asian Tour's season-ending Volvo Masters of Asia in the early 2000s.

Can you play Royal Selangor Golf Club?

Royal Selangor Golf Club, founded in 1893, is one of Asia's oldest clubs and sits in the heart of the city off Jalan Tun Razak. It hosted the Malaysian Open almost every year from 1962 to 1986, again in 1993, 1994 and 2002, and the inaugural Maybank Championship Malaysia in 2016.

It is a private club open only to members and their guests and is not bookable as a visitor round. If you are keen, ask your home club whether it has a reciprocal arrangement, or ask your hotel concierge, and confirm directly with the club. Otherwise, KLGCC, Saujana and The Mines give you the same tournament pedigree with visitor access.

When is the best time for golf in Kuala Lumpur?

Golf is played year-round in Kuala Lumpur's equatorial climate, with temperatures of roughly 24–33°C. The drier spells usually fall in January–February and June–August.

The inter-monsoon months around April and October–November bring the heaviest afternoon thunderstorms, and clubs suspend play when lightning is close. That is why early-morning tee times are standard: you finish before the heat peaks and before the storms build. KLGCC's West Course may close for the Maybank Championship in late October or early November, so check the calendar.

How to plan a 4-day Kuala Lumpur golf itinerary

  • Day 1 — KLGCC West Course. Play the PGA Tour and LPGA venue at Bukit Kiara, then lunch five minutes away in TTDI at DC. by Darren Chin or Akar.
  • Day 2 — Saujana Palm Course. Take on "The Cobra," then visit Shah Alam's blue-domed Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque outside prayer times.
  • Day 3 — The Mines. A morning round on the former tin mine, then the Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC Park, with dinner at two-Michelin-star Dewakan.
  • Day 4 — Kota Permai. Ross Watson's fast greens in Shah Alam, then Batu Caves on the way back and a last evening at the Jalan Alor hawker stalls.

All four courses sit within a short drive of central Kuala Lumpur, so you can stay in one hotel for the whole trip.

Where to base yourself in Kuala Lumpur

KLCC is the classic five-star base: the Petronas Twin Towers, KLCC Park and Dewakan on the doorstep, with reasonable drives to every course.

Bukit Bintang is livelier, close to Jalan Alor's street food and Pudu's Cantonese institutions, and similarly central for the courses.

Bangsar, TTDI and the western suburbs put you closest to KLGCC at Bukit Kiara and the Michelin-starred restaurants of TTDI, and on the right side of town for Saujana and Kota Permai. Drive times from each hotel are shown on this page.

Beyond the fairways: food and sights

Kuala Lumpur rewards golfers who eat well. Dewakan, 48 floors up in KLCC, is Malaysia's only two-Michelin-star restaurant, retained in the 2026 guide alongside a Green Star, cooking native Malaysian produce. In TTDI, near KLGCC, DC. by Darren Chin holds one star for French cooking with Malaysian accents and a cheese trolley, and Akar was promoted to one star in 2026 for its beeswax cooking, dry-ageing and claypot searing. For a classic, MICHELIN-listed Sek Yuen in Pudu has served Cantonese pipa duck and roast suckling pig since 1948.

  • Petronas Twin Towers & KLCC Park — the 88-storey towers, skybridge and observation deck.
  • Batu Caves — Hindu cave temples up 272 rainbow-painted steps.
  • Jalan Alor — the city's best-known evening street-food strip.
  • Thean Hou Temple — a multi-tiered Chinese temple with views over the city.
  • Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque — Shah Alam's blue-domed state mosque, near Saujana and Kota Permai.

Rules, rates and booking policies change, so confirm details directly with each club before you travel.
