Women's golf getaways:
great courses, easy logistics

Three destinations with caddie-supported golf, short transfers, and spa and dining scenes worth the trip.

A great golf getaway, whether you're traveling with friends, a club group or on your own, comes down to easy logistics, well-run courses and good food. Hua Hin is the most relaxed choice: five courses a short drive from the beach, about three hours from Bangkok. Chiang Mai adds cool-season mountain golf at Chiangmai Highlands, one of GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Golf Resorts in the World, and MICHELIN-recognised northern Thai food. Kuala Lumpur lets you play the West Course at KLGCC, which has hosted the LPGA Tour's Maybank Championship since 2023, and dine at Malaysia's only two-MICHELIN-star restaurant. Caddies, carts and morning tee times make every round straightforward.

What makes a destination great for a women's golf trip?

The priorities are the same for any group of golfers: short transfers, courses that welcome visitors, a choice of tees, and plenty to do once the round is over. Hua Hin, Chiang Mai and Kuala Lumpur score well on all four. Each has several courses within an hour of a five-star base, caddie support at most clubs and strong spa and dining scenes.

All three also suit mixed-ability groups. Caddies help with lines, yardages and green reading, and carts keep the pace comfortable in the heat.

Hua Hin: relaxed golf by the Gulf of Thailand

Hua Hin's courses are close together, so it's easy to play every day. Black Mountain, Phil Ryan's 27-hole tour venue beneath limestone hills, requires a tee time and a caddie. Pineapple Valley is rolling parkland routed through a former pineapple plantation, Springfield Royal in Cha-am is Jack Nicklaus's hillside 27, and Royal Hua Hin, Thailand's oldest course (1924), is within walking distance of town.

Off the course: beachfront seafood at Baan Itsara and Chao Lay, the weekend Cicada Market for art and crafts, and the teak Mrigadayavan Palace. November to March is prime season.

Chiang Mai: cool-season mountain golf and northern food

From November to January, Chiang Mai's mornings are cool and clear, which is ideal for mountain golf. Chiangmai Highlands Golf & Spa Resort combines 27 Schmidt-Curley holes with a spa, and it was named one of GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Golf Resorts in the World in 2023. Alpine Golf Resort, a former Asian Tour venue, sits in the same valley, Royal Chiangmai is Peter Thomson's parkland north of the city, and Summit Green Valley is floodlit for night golf.

Chiang Mai is one of Thailand's best food cities. Have khao soi at the Bib Gourmand Khao Soi Mae Sai, try northern dips at Huen Muan Jai and book the seasonal family-recipe menu at CHAWEE. Between rounds, visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the cafés and boutiques of Nimmanhaemin Road and the Sunday Walking Street.

Kuala Lumpur: LPGA-venue golf and a two-star dinner

The West Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club has staged the LPGA Tour's Maybank Championship since 2023, after hosting the PGA Tour's CIMB Classic from 2013 to 2018. It's a members' club, but visitor tee times are available through the club and golf travel agents, except during tournament closures. Saujana's Palm Course, nicknamed "The Cobra", has hosted the Malaysian Open seven times, and The Mines, built on a former tin mine, hosted the 1999 World Cup of Golf. Both are open daily. Royal Selangor, which hosted the inaugural Maybank Championship Malaysia in 2016, is private and open only to members and their guests.

For dinner, Dewakan, 48 floors above KLCC, is Malaysia's only two-MICHELIN-star restaurant. DC. by Darren Chin and Akar, both one-star, are minutes from KLGCC. Golf is played year-round; tee off early to avoid afternoon thunderstorms.

Which destination should your group choose?

  • Hua Hin — for an easy-going week of beach, golf and seafood, with short drives between courses. Go from November to March.
  • Chiang Mai — for mountain scenery, a golf-and-spa resort and food-focused evenings. The best months are November to January.
  • Kuala Lumpur — for a city break with tour-venue golf, MICHELIN-starred dining and shopping, with golf year-round.

For a longer trip, combine Hua Hin with Bangkok, or add a few days in Kuala Lumpur on the way to or from Thailand.

Practical tips for your golf getaway

  • Caddies are standard in Thailand and common in Malaysia. They carry or drive with your bag, read greens and help with yardages, and are tipped in cash; ask the club or your hotel for the customary amount.
  • Choose the tees that suit your game, and tell the starter your group's preference when you book.
  • Book morning tee times to beat the heat and leave the afternoon for the spa.
  • Dress codes are conventional: collared or golf tops, tailored shorts, skorts or trousers, and soft-spike shoes. Check each club's rules.
  • Arrange transfers through your hotel or a reputable driver, and agree a pickup time after lunch.

⛳ The courses worth the trip

Golf season: November to March is the prime golf window in Hua Hin and Cha-am, with dry skies, lower humidity and the most comfortable morning temperatures of the year. Hua Hin sits in a relatively dry rain shadow on the Gulf coast, so play continues year-round, though October usually brings the heaviest showers. November to January is the best golf season in Chiang Mai, with dry weather, cool mornings and clear mountain views after the rains. February to April turns hot and is often hazy from seasonal crop burning, and May to October is the rainy season. Golf is played year-round in Kuala Lumpur's equatorial climate (roughly 24–33°C); the drier spells usually fall in January–February and June–August, while the inter-monsoon months around April and October–November bring the heaviest afternoon thunderstorms, so early-morning tee times are the norm.

🏝️ Where to base your golf trip

🍽️ Dining & cafés near Hua Hin, Chiang Mai & Kuala Lumpur

❓ Golf trip FAQ

Which Asian destination is best for a women's golf trip?

It depends on what your group wants. Hua Hin is the most relaxed choice, with five courses close to the beach. Chiang Mai offers cool-season mountain golf, a golf-and-spa resort at Chiangmai Highlands and excellent northern Thai food. Kuala Lumpur combines LPGA-venue golf at KLGCC with city shopping and MICHELIN-starred dining.

Can visitors play the LPGA course in Kuala Lumpur?

Usually, yes. The West Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club has hosted the LPGA Tour's Maybank Championship since 2023. KLGCC is a members' club, but visitor tee times are available through the club and golf travel agents, except during tournament closures. Confirm availability and rules directly with the club before you travel.

Are caddies mandatory at these courses?

At Black Mountain in Hua Hin, a caddie is mandatory, and caddies are standard practice at most Thai clubs. They carry or drive with your bag, read greens and help with lines. Caddies are also common in Malaysia. Tipping in cash at the end of the round is customary; ask the club or your hotel for the usual amount.

When is the best time for golf in Hua Hin, Chiang Mai and Kuala Lumpur?

Hua Hin's prime window is November to March. Chiang Mai is best from November to January, with cool, clear mornings; from February it turns hot and hazy. Kuala Lumpur is playable year-round, with drier spells in January and February and from June to August. Book early-morning tee times everywhere.

Is there a golf resort with a spa in Chiang Mai?

Yes. Chiangmai Highlands Golf & Spa Resort pairs 27 Schmidt-Curley holes with a spa, and it was named one of GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Golf Resorts in the World in 2023. Many five-star hotels in all three destinations also have spas; check each hotel's page for treatments and opening hours.

What should I wear for golf in Thailand and Malaysia?

Most clubs follow conventional golf dress codes: collared or golf tops, tailored shorts, skorts or trousers, and soft-spike shoes, with no denim. Private and tournament clubs can be stricter, so check each club's rules. Pack a hat, sunscreen and breathable fabrics for the heat, plus a light layer for Chiang Mai mornings.
